The Java AWT defines platform-independent font names for a small number of widely available fonts. It also defines four font styles and allows font sizes to be specified as a point size.

This is a Java 1.0 applet; Java 1.1 has a much more flexible font model with programmable support for the full Unicode 16-bit character standard; some of the Java 1.0 font names are ``deprecated'' with Java 1.1; for example, ZapfDingbats was never very portable and portable Unicode equivalents are now recommended.
